Outdoor Swimming Pools in Barcelona
What are the best outdoor swimming pools in Barcelona?
Piscina Municipal de Montjuic
The Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc is a renowned outdoor swimming facility in Barcelona, celebrated for its Olympic legacy and breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Situated on Montjuïc Hill, this venue offers a unique blend of sports history and scenic beauty. The complex features two main pools: a 25-meter recreational pool and a diving pool, though the diving platforms are not open to the public. Both pools use saltwater, which is gentler on the skin and eyes compared to traditional chlorinated pools. Visitors can enjoy a small poolside kiosk offering refreshments, and sunbeds are available for rent, providing a comfortable spot to relax while taking in the spectacular views.
Originally opened in 1929, the facility was significantly renovated for the 1992 Summer Olympics, where it hosted diving events and water polo preliminaries. Its elevated position on Montjuïc Hill makes it one of the most picturesque swimming venues in the world.
Located at Avinguda de Miramar, 31, 08038 Barcelona, the pool is easily accessible by metro (Espanya station, L1 and L3), funicular (Montjuïc Funicular from Paral·lel station), and bus (lines 55 and 150).
The pool’s setting offers unparalleled views of Barcelona, making it a must-visit spot for both swimming enthusiasts and those simply looking to unwind. Whether you’re aiming for a refreshing swim or wish to relax with a view, the Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc promises an unforgettable summer experience.

Splash fountains in Barcelona
Barcelona has launched four new splash fountains this summer as part of its Climate Plan to help residents cool off during heatwaves. These are not swimming pools, but fun water play areas with spray features that operate using a timed button system for responsible water use. All fountains are open daily and will remain active until September.
The new fountains are located at Casa de l’Aigua (Trinitat Vella), Jardins de Sant Joan de Déu (Les Corts), Plaça de les Glòries (which also includes the unofficial splash zone at the “Mirall d’Aigua” fountain), and Plaça del Maresme (Sant Martí). These additions bring the total to eight splash areas in the city, joining the existing ones in Canyelles, Parc de les Rieres d’Horta, Bon Pastor, and Canòdrom Meridiana.
