Grec Festival 2025

This year marks the 49th edition of the Grec Festival 2025, one of Europe’s leading festivals of music, dance, theatre, cinema and circus. Taking place from 26th June until 4th August, events will be hosted in fifty of the city’s most exciting venues and will include a range of both international productions and the very best of Barcelona’s local talent. Over the course of its history, this long-standing event has become a key summer attraction in Barcelona and here’s why…

Grec Festival 2025

About The Grec Festival

Now in its 49th edition, the Grec Festival of Barcelona deepens its identity as a cultural heartbeat of the city. This year, the festival shifts its focus outward, building a rich network of artistic, institutional, and social alliances that knit the Grec more deeply into the fabric of Barcelona.

The lineup brings together returning international stars, emerging voices making their Barcelona debut, and new work developed within the city itself. Artistic diversity is front and centre, with a bold commitment to quality and contemporary relevance, inviting audiences to grapple with the world as it is today, to see classics through new eyes, and to engage with stories of beauty, fear, struggle, and transformation.

The festival continues to spotlight women in the arts and fosters intergenerational dialogue, pairing established masters with rising talents committed to shaping the future.

This year’s guiding spirit is embodied by the faun of the Grec, a playful yet profound figure who invites us to dream with our eyes wide open.

Grec Festival 2025 - Programme

The 2025 programme incorporates: co-productions with international festivals, performances in unexpected venues, and shows born from collaboration between creative hubs and public institutions.

Diversity

Diversity and inclusivity are at the forefront of this festival. You can expect to see a range of artistic works, from contemporary performances to classical theatre, often featuring experimental and innovative productions.

The mix of genres, different people and different cultures all help to make this festival a very special one. The variety really is endless and spectators will be spoilt for choice.

Connection and Collaboration

The 2025 edition of the Grec Festival centres conceptually on connection and collaboration. The key focus this year is on strengthening alliances (artistic, institutional, and social)l, to make “the Grec more a part of Barcelona, and Barcelona more a part of the Grec.”

Symbolically, the faun of the Grec embodies this spirit of dreaming, connecting, and experiencing together, inviting audiences to engage with art as a shared, transformative experience.

Grec Festival

Grec teatre

The festival will mainly take place at the infamous open-air ‘Teatre Grec‘ in Parc de Montjuïc, a venue with a distinct Greek-inspired design, which only adds to the unique ambiance of the festival. Major classical works have been performed here, although due to the Spanish Civil War it almost fell into disuse. In 1976, with the opening of the Grec Festival, it was given a new lease of life and since then, it sleeps in winter and awakens each summer to become the central venue of the city’s biggest performing arts festival.

Grec restaurant

The Grec restaurant ‘Farm to Table‘ will be opening it’s doors in the theatre’s gardens during the month of July to offer a new culinary activity from one of Barcelona’s most picturesque terraces. Farm to Table’s culinary premise is based on the purity of the quality produce and respect for local farming.

The ‘Del Camp a Taula restaurant is also responsible for the bars located in the Teatre Grec gardens, where you can enjoy tasty food and drink, before and after the shows. The culinary delights that will be on offer include classics like secallona sausage with mini breadsticks, or a glass of cava with crystal coca cake, as well as new dishes such as cod croquettes with raisins and pine nuts.
