At The Multilingual Garden, we help families and educators in Barcelona and beyond to thrive in their multilingual journeys. Founded by Dr. Karin Martin, linguist and multilingual competence specialist, our mission is to support parents raising bilingual or multilingual children, and to guide schools in creating inclusive and linguistically rich environments.
We believe that every language is a seed that, when nurtured with care, grows into confidence, identity, and connection. Through personalised consultations, practical workshops, and online courses, we provide families with tools and strategies to overcome challenges such as children refusing to speak a heritage language, pressure from relatives, or uncertainty about school choice.
For schools, we design training programs and teacher development modules on multilingualism, helping educators understand how to engage with parents, support children’s full language repertoire, and turn linguistic diversity into a strength for the classroom.
Our services include:
- Parent consultations: one-to-one support for family language planning.
- Teacher trainings: workshops for schools and kindergartens in Barcelona and internationally.
- Online courses: accessible resources for families and professionals, including "The Adventure of Multilingualism."
- Books: Karin’s guide for parents, "Watch Your Language, Mom! A Guide to Multilingualism", offering evidence-based advice in a friendly style.
With over ten years of experience in research, teaching, and coaching, Karin has worked with families in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Her approach combines scientific knowledge with practical tools, always tailored to the unique reality of each family or institution.
Barcelona, as a multilingual city at the crossroads of cultures, is the perfect place to support families and schools who want to embrace linguistic diversity. The Multilingual Garden is here to ensure that children grow up with pride in their languages, parents feel confident in their decisions, and educators have the tools to foster truly inclusive classrooms.
Our vision is simple yet powerful: Languages don’t compete — they grow together. In every consultation, training, or event, we aim to plant seeds of confidence, belonging, and peace, because multilingualism is not only a skill but a way to build bridges between people.

Because every language you pass on is a gift — it strengthens your child’s identity, family bonds, and future opportunities.
This is common! We guide you with practical strategies so your child feels confident and motivated to use all their languages.
No. Research shows multilingual children are not confused — on the contrary, they develop flexibility, problem-solving skills, and empathy.

23 September 2025 at 15:14Great professional who helped me navigate the uncertainties of fostering the mother language while raising two kids in a foreign country. Thanks to Karin's support, I am now proud to see how my kids talk fluently in my native language! Thanks for such an invaluable gift!

23 September 2025 at 23:14Karin was ever so helpful and understanding when the problem of so many languages and cultures arose at home. Honestly it was a difficult task to manage without any help and enlightment. Luckily we cross paths with her and I highly recommend her 100%. She is motivated, resourceful, helpful and caring. She likes what she does and thus she does it great.

27 September 2025 at 15:19I cannot recommend Karin enough! Working with her completely changed the way I approach raising my multilingual child. She listened carefully to my concerns, helped me create a clear and realistic language plan for our family, and gave me practical tools I could use right away.
What I appreciated most is how kind, knowledgeable, and non-judgmental she is. She never made me feel guilty for what we weren’t doing yet, but instead empowered me to see the strengths we already had. After just a few sessions, I feel more confident, my child is more engaged, and our whole family dynamic around languages has become calmer and more joyful.
If you’re looking for someone who combines deep expertise with warmth and real-life solutions, Karin is the person to go to!
