Things to do: July in Barcelona

July in Barcelona

The warm days of July are here. Time to spend long days at the beach, watch movies outdoors, and go to festivals. It is important to consider the heat when making plans. We’ve put some of the nicest activities together that you can do at different times of the day, so you can get the most out of your summer in the city!

Things to do: July in Barcelona

Go back in time by watching a movie outdoors! This shared experience is something so special. In Barcelona, you can watch movies outdoors at the most incredible locations. Take a picnic basket and your favorite people and enjoy a night with amazing views and movies such as Belfast, Interstellar, and Pulp Fiction. Get your tickets here!

If you’re looking for a relaxed, but entertaining way to spend your night, then consider going to one of the free concerts taking place in the parks of Barcelona. There are people playing jazz music on Wednesdays and Fridays at 22.00 in Ciutadella and from Thursday to Saturday young musicians play a variety of classical music in various parks around the city. If you’re a fan of jazz, soul, funk, blues, flamenco, Afrobeat, or Afro-Cuban music then ‘Mas I Mas festival’ is the place for you. This festival originates from a small bar called the Mas I Mas bar. It became an important spot to hang out in Sarria Sant Gervasi with its regular visitors that ranged from DJs and designers to journalists and club managers. From there the company grew and opened up a cafe-restaurant, several nightclubs, and now a festival. This festival embodies the importance of live music and the history of all of these different genres.

For those interested in cultural activities, Festival de Grec is the festival to attend. Its name stems from the Greek amphitheater (Teatre Grec) which is considered the base of the festival. This festival’s purpose is to show that everyone is connected with one another, and so is every country. It showcases how art broadens our perspectives of the world around us. Diversity and inclusivity are at the forefront of this festival. The mix of different genres, different people, and different cultures makes this festival a very special one.

Another festival that is perfect to attend with a group of friends is ‘Festival Cruïlla Barcelona’. This festival includes a wide range of genres from pop and rock to African and Jamaican music. Artists such as Kylie Minogue, Ben Howard, and The Lumineers have played at the festival in previous editions. The festival’s location is one of its main perks; outdoors and facing the sea!

Since the temperatures rise a lot already in July, most people spend the majority of their days at the beach. However, mornings spent in the park can also be really lovely. Grab a blanket, some coffee, and a picnic basket and enjoy the softness of the mornings in parks such as Turó Park, Jardins de Joan Brossa, Montjuïc, Laribal Gardens, and Poblenou Central Park. If you’re looking for a way to immerse yourself in Catalan culture, then visit ‘Festa Major del Raval’. The whole neighborhood participates in a multitude of cultural activities that are meant for not only adults but also children.
